Praise for The Last Post

THE LAST POST WAS PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED AS FAITH’S REWARD. SOME REVIEWS REFER TO THAT EDITION.

Amazon 5 reviews:

B.K. Duncan reveals the horror of the First World War in her novella. She deals with the nature of love and truth. She asks the age old question, what is truth.

It’s not easy for a writer to entertain another writer . .  . but BK Duncan did it and then some. The Last Post is a short work of fiction done by a consummate storyteller in complete control of her craft. An excellent read.

What a fantastic novella set during the First World War. The writing was so good, that I felt like I was with May Keaps as she went about her job as an ambulance driver. A great introduction to this author, and a new series that I will definitely be reading.

Writing is impeccable and the storyline what I expected. The twist was what I didn’t see coming. Highly recommended.

May is a great believable character trying to survive as part of the ambulance brigade during the hell of WW1 trench life. Great narrative and prose. You can almost smell the sweat, blood and cordite as she makes her way through a mire of hell. Together with the mystery of Tobias Fairfax, The Last Post will keep you riveted to your Kindle.

A poetic novella. This short story kept me entranced as it wove story of war and rejected love. May keeps is a heroine to be followed in the future.

This touching story set in France during WW1 tells how May, a courageous ambulance driver, sets aside her own fear to do her duty which is to pick up casualties from the Front. The horror of trying to get the victims to safety through war-torn streets is vividly portrayed. There is another view of the cruelty of war that results in an interesting twist. Good story. Well researched.

Superb writing style. I could feel the emotions of the characters as if I were there with them. Can’t wait to read BK Duncan’s novel Foul Trade.

This novella packs a powerful punch and is a first rate introduction to a forthcoming series. It is an extremely quick read but the subject matter stays with you long after you have finished the last page. Absorbing, disturbing, heart wrenching.

THE LAST POST brings society’s expectations into sharp focus and looks at the potentially devastating affect of one man’s death on the woman who loves him. I am really looking forward to reading the first book in the new series featuring this feisty young woman.

An exciting, moving, and informative story all in one. BK Duncan skillfully takes the reader into the Great War, and into the lives of the characters with detail and vivid description. I am already hooked on Foul Trade!!

This is a very well written short story. Strong, wise woman thrown in the middle of war and doing what she has to to survive. I enjoyed it.

A gripping introduction to May Keaps in this moving and compelling short story from BK Duncan (author of Foul Trade). Shining brightly through the darkness and pain of life at ‘the Front’ are the efforts of a compassionate and dedicated ambulance driver doing the best she can to help others. May’s kindness and empathy for others, in the face of death, makes her a worthy heroine indeed and bring a tear to the eye. Great read – loved it.

This story is very short and yet says all there is to say about one person’s love for another during the horrors of the First World War. It is well researched, and told from the point of view of a female ambulance driver rather than a soldier, so has an added element of sympathy. I would like to read more by this author.
